Introducing our first guest speaker to the program: Tom Calder, Austrade

Tom Calder is the State Director for the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) in Western Australia and prior to this was Trade Commissioner in New Delhi and Mumbai for over six years.

While in India Tom was responsible for the marketing and promotion of Australian education and training across South Asia encompassing India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Tom’s role included working with local Indian institutions, corporates, peak bodies, and government networks to identify opportunities for Australian education and training providers across industries, including transnational education delivery. Under Tom’s leadership Austrade developed many successful partnerships across the higher education and vocational training space; including research collaborations, dual degree and exchange programs, and local institutions offering Australian post graduate certificate programs. 

Introducing our second guest speaker to the program: Cian Manton, Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP)

Cian Manton is the Director, Temporary Visas WA for DIBP, based in the Department’s Perth regional office. Her responsibilities include national programme delivery of the temporary graduate visa programme as well as local management of the student and 457 programmes.

Cian has worked for the agency both in its Canberra headquarters and the WA regional office, in a range of communications and service delivery roles. She moved into visa programme delivery in 2014 and has managed a range of temporary visa programmes including student, working holiday maker, 485 and 457.  She also managed media and parliamentary services at Medicare Australia in 2007-08.
