BCA National graduation ceremony
Monday, March 20 2017
It was coincidental that International Women’s Day, March 8th, fell on the same day as BCA National’s Graduation Ceremony. However it’s no coincidence that through education and training, a group of Sydney women had made the decision to empower themselves and improve their lives. A real life representation of the values of International Women’s Day - #BeBoldForChange
Through partnerships with four public schools in the Bankstown area of Sydney, BCA National enrolled a group of predominantly Muslim women into the Certificate IV in Education Support in 2016. Most with young children, they were hoping to gain a qualification that would enable them to secure a role as a teacher’s aide.
One year later, 35 women, supported by friends and family, attended their graduation ceremony at Wiley Park Public School. For some it was their first formal qualification. For all of them it provided a huge boost in confidence, self-esteem and a sense of achievement. Some have already found paid employment, even before graduating. Others are volunteering or still looking for their opportunity.
The graduation, attended by Wiley Park Principal Rene Demos and BCA National CEO Bruce Callaghan and representatives from the other schools involved, provided this group of women with the chance to reflect on their studies and personally thank their trainer, Susan Delahoy. Congratulations to all of BCA National graduates!
